Deadline: 05-Aug-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) has opened a call for proposals to implement school feeding activities in the Kasai Oriental, Kasai Central, and Lomami provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The initiative aims to provide hot, nutritious meals to students and teachers on all school days in selected primary schools. It also seeks to develop school gardens and community fields to promote local food production, improving meal quality and variety.
A key objective is to reduce hunger among schoolchildren to enhance their learning ability. The program also focuses on improving retention and academic performance for both girls and boys in WFP-supported schools.
WFP will work with state health services to conduct deworming campaigns using Mebendazole and raise awareness of good nutrition practices. Information and education activities will target children, families, especially women and girls, and the wider education community.
Cooking demonstrations using local foods will be organized for women, pregnant and breastfeeding girls, and school canteen cooks. The project also aims to improve hygiene, sanitation, and nutrition awareness among children, teachers, and families.
The overarching goal is to increase student enrollment in targeted schools, improve attendance, and reduce dropout rates. This school feeding program will run from 1 September 2025 to 15 August 2026.
Specializations for this project include education, school meals, and general nutrition. The initiative places strong emphasis on proper food stock management, consistent meal preparation, and functioning school gardens.
Personnel involved will receive training, and school canteen management committees will be active in each school. Students, teachers, cooks, and their families will benefit from the program, including deworming and health education.
Women and girls will be engaged in cooking demonstrations, and efforts will be made to ensure children and teachers remain physically well during school hours. Gender equality, protection activities, accountability, and conflict sensitivity are also integrated into the project.
Community members, including students, parents, and local leaders, are expected to gain improved knowledge and practices around nutrition. A monthly report will be required to monitor the program’s progress.
Proposals will be evaluated based on expertise in the sector, local experience, relevance to the program’s goals, and cost-effectiveness.
