STAR- Ghana is accepting proposals from eligible organizations for its Gender Equality & Social Inclusion (GESI) Small Grants Component with an aim to support CBOs/NGOs with a district or community base to pilot or test innovative (promising and new) strategies with the aim to address GESI issues at the community or district level.
Theme: Strengthening citizen engagements with local governance institutions (including district assemblies and traditional authorities) for sustainable and inclusive access to quality public goods and services and economic resources.
Objectives
- To strengthen citizen interaction with local governance authorities such as District Assemblies and traditional authorities for sustainable and inclusive access to quality public goods and services.
- Promote citizen empowerment through a greater ability of women, girls and other excluded social groups (and organisations) to engage with district assemblies and traditional authorities to support inclusive, sustainable development.
- Promote increased voice and participation of GESI groups in local governance, including District Assemblies and traditional governance systems.
- Promote increased accountability and responsiveness of district assemblies (including their decentralised agencies) and traditional authorities to GESI groups.
Funding Information
The proposed project must:
- Have a maximum budget of approximately GHS 150,000.00 per project.
- Have a maximum duration of 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organisations eligible to apply under this component include the following categories of CSOs:
- Registered Ghanaian civil society organisations (CSOs) located or operating at community or district levels.
- Community-based organisations working in rural or deprived communities;
- Faith-based organisations located and working in rural or deprived communities and working with particular excluded social groups;
- Town, village and community associations;
- farmer-based organisations, fishermen and women associations representing peasant or small-scale food farmers or small-scale fishermen or fish processors;
- youth associations,
- Associations of persons with disabilities.
- Special consideration will be given to organisations that are led and staffed by socially excluded people.
- The issues indicated below are not meant to be exhaustive but provide examples of key focus areas or thrusts, identified as critical to achieving the objectives of STAR-Ghana’s GESI strategies at the sub-national level:
- increased accountability and responsiveness of district assemblies to the voice, leadership and political participation of GESI groups
- improved access to economic opportunities and productive resources , such as financial capital , livelihood opportunities and land rights
- improved access to quality public services for example. health, education, sanitation, housing
- increased adherence to the human rights and protection of women, girls and marginalised groups with a focus on laws, legislation as well as socio-cultural norms and practices of discrimination and stigma
