The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) has announced an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support the DRL policy goal to mitigate threats of violent extremism in Nigeria and Kenya by promoting community resilience and empowering youth leaders to recognize and prevent violence committed by groups such as Boko Haram and Al Shabaab.
The programs seeks to create networks of community and youth leaders to share lessons learned and practical ways to develop resilience to threats posed by extremist groups. The successful program will train community leaders, particularly youth leaders, to recognize threats that lead to violence and address community challenges resulting from such threats.
Program Approach

- Focus on training and exchange opportunities to share ideas and lessons learned between key civil society actors and local leaders in both countries to increase community resilience against such threats.
