Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Call for Proposals: Go! Digital Next Generation

Deadline: 15 May 2018

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is seeking proposals for a new digital humanities programme with an aim to continue and intensify the expansion of digital humanities in Austria.

This programme is financed by the National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development. The programme is primarily aimed at young scientists who wish to apply and enhance digital methods within the framework of cooperation projects.

Programme Objectives

The programme is intended to improve the framework conditions for data-based and data-driven research in the social sciences and humanities by

  • intensifying the use of existing infrastructures, digital data and tools,
  • focusing on the role of social sciences and humanities in society,
  • promoting cooperative approaches,
  • offering young researchers opportunities to combine scientifically innovative research questions with innovative digital methods,
  • working towards more gender equality in research,
  • promoting relevant discourses within the research community and
  • building on the FAIR principles as a basis for modern data management.

Funding Information

The budget for each of the projects is between a minimum of EUR 150,000 and a maximum of EUR 220,000. Up to 15 projects are envisaged. The grant shall also cover overheads in the amount of 10% of the direct project costs. The following direct costs may be applied for:

  • Staff costs
  • Costs for consumables
  • Travel expenses
  • Other costs
  • (Other costs means costs which cannot be allocated to staff costs, consumables or travel expenses, such as e.g. reimbursement for the use of research infrastructure; offers must be enclosed)
  • Contracts for work or services

Target group

Groups of scientists from university and non-university research institutions in Austria who are still at the beginning of their careers are entitled to apply. An application should be submitted by at least two proponents from different disciplines. Partnerships between representatives of cultural heritage institutions and representatives of research facilities outside the areas of the social sciences and humanities are explicitly welcome.
