TRANSFORM: Helping to Ensure Impactful Products reach Rural Communities

Deadline: 5 June 2018

Applications are open for TRANSFORM to enable access for 100 million people to products that will enhance their livelihoods, in areas as diverse as lighting, energy and WASH.

TRANSFORM is looking for the best innovations that will scale last-mile distribution networks in rural areas, and have the potential to do so cost-effectively. These can include access delivered through small-scale retailers, agent-based models, distributors, eCommerce, or those that we haven’t thought of yet.

They are especially interested in models that also bring an approach to creating demand for high-impact products and that can inspire positive consumer behaviour change. Models benefitting women or that are globally replicable are especially welcome.

TRANSFORM identifies funds, and delivers technical expertise and capacity-building to social business models and behaviour change interventions that meet the needs of low-income households in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, delivering impact at scale.

They collaborate with ideas that:

  • Meet the needs of low-income households
  • Generate impact in DFIDS’s priority countries
  • Demonstrate the potential to be financially sustainable
  • Demonstrate the potential to reach scale
  • Address low-income household needs in a new way
  • Have a good track record
  • Demonstrate relevance to TRANSFORM’S partners’ capabilities.

Funding Information

The call TRANSFORM (a Unilever-DFID partnership) will provide successful applications with grant funding of up to £300,000 and tailored business support to help solutions scale.

Eligibility Criteria

  • TRANSFORM invites social entrepreneurs, innovators and researchers creating impact in target geographies to submit project proposals for technical assistance and funding of up to 300,000 to develop, test and prepare their ideas for scale.
