The United States Department of Agriculture, Business and Cooperative Programs is seeking applications for its Rural Cooperative Development Grant (RCDG) 2017 with an aim to improve the economic condition of rural areas by assisting individuals or entities in the startup, expansion or operational improvement of rural cooperatives and other business entities.
Grants are awarded competitively on an annual basis to Rural Cooperative Development Centers who in turn provide technical assistance to individuals and entities.
Award Information
- Estimated Program Funding: $5.8 million
- Maximum Grant Amount: $200,000
- Matching Funds Requirement: 25% of total project costs (5% for 1994 institutions)
Funding Criteria
Grant and matching funds can be used for developing and operating a Rural Cooperative Development Center. Examples of technical and other services that the Centers can provide:
- Conducting feasibility studies
- Developing business plans
- Providing leadership and operational improvement training
- Facilitating strategic planning
Eligibility Criteria
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
- Private institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
