Applications open for Made in Wakefield Large Grants – United Kingdom

The Wakefield Council is accepting applications for the Made in Wakefield Large Grants to support a significant new creative work, or larger participatory projects with communities, including those culturally under-served in Wakefield district, that may be sustained, longer term or larger scale.

Culture Grants are for artists, creatives, cultural organisations, and community groups based in Wakefield district. The grants help enhance the creative and cultural offer across Wakefield.

Funding Information
  • Culture Grants range from £250 to £15,000.
  • Made in Wakefield Large Grants – £5,000 – £15,000
Eligible Projects
  • These grants will support:
    • large scale cultural and creative projects
    • large scale participatory arts projects
    • projects that target engagement with culturally under-served audiences
    • match funding for a significant national funding application i.e. National Lottery Heritage Fund
  • Please note that unlike Made in Wakefield Small grants, Large grants are not appropriate to support research and development or pilot projects as the larger funding amount requires activity to be already developed ready for delivery.
Eligibility Criteria
  • They can receive applications from individuals, cultural organisations, and community groups. You must be based within the Wakefield district and all projects must be completed by, for and with the people of Wakefield – i.e. it must take place within the district for the benefit of the district.
    • Wakefield district based – Culture Grants 2024 is funding for Wakefield district. You must have a registered address within Wakefield district. If you are an individual applying, then the address can be personal or a business premises e.g. a creative studio or office.
    • Cultural and Creative activity – Culture Grants 2024 funding supports arts, cultural and heritage activity. Your application must focus on a project, idea or activity which is predominantly creative.
    • Projects align with the timeline requirements
      • Culture Grants 2024 projects supported in Round 1 (30 October 2023 deadline) must start activity no later than February 2024
      • Culture Grants 2024 projects supported in all rounds must be completed and evaluated by the 28 February 2025. They cannot fund activity that has already happened.
    • Employees of Wakefield Council/Full-Time Student – They cannot fund employees of Wakefield Council individually, or as a lead applicant for a group, organisation or collective. This funding is not suitable for full-time students.
    • They cannot fund any of the following – any projects which include elements which are unsafe, illegal, defamatory, or discriminatory in any way. They cannot fund the purchase of alcohol, and they cannot fund capital expenditure.
    • Faith groups – They  can support faith groups to run community arts activity, but they cannot support religious messaging or religious activities.
