The Nillumbik Shire Council is now inviting applications for its Communities First Grants to local community groups and organisations to deliver projects that will help build vibrant and connected communities.
Strong community and neighbourhood connections help people to manage better during and after emergencies.
Funding Information
- Applications can be made for any amount up to $2,000.
What can be funded?
- Funding is available for projects and activities that will achieve one or more of the following:
- Build strong community and social connection
- Build upon community strengths, networks and resources
- Support people to plan and prepare for emergencies
- Reduce the impact of emergencies on the community
What won’t be funded?
- Projects, events or activities that are held outside the Nillumbik municipal boundary or that do not substantially benefit the Nillumbik community
- Projects previously funded by Council – unless the funds will be used for a new/different element or activity that will add additional value/benefit to the project
- Ongoing operational expenses or core business costs (e.g. salaries, administrative costs, maintenance costs, uniforms, utility bills, etc.)
- Projects that are curriculum based or entirely student or congregation focused
- Projects solely for fundraising purposes without broad community benefit
- Competitions with no community component or prize money/awards
- Projects or events with a political or religious purpose
- Events that are fully ticketed with no free/heavily subsidised component
- Alcohol/gambling related activities
- Projects that could be funded via other Council grant programs
- Projects that have received full funding from another source
- Funding requests that are the responsibility of other levels of Government
- Retrospective funding for projects that are due to commence prior to the notification of the application outcome
- Applicants that are in debt to or have any outstanding commitments with the Shire.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must:
- Be a not-for-profit incorporated local organisation or community group; or
- Be auspiced by an incorporated organisation if applicants are unincorporated or an individual. Organisations can auspice multiple applications. You must ensure the auspice is aware of all of their responsibilities as an auspice
- Commercial businesses can partner with a not-for-profit organisation or community group as long as the project demonstrates broad community benefit. The application must come from a not-for-profit or community group
- Be based in Nillumbik or support Nillumbik residents
- Supply an active ABN or complete a Statement by Supplier form
- Hold a minimum of $10 million public liability insurance
- Have acquitted and be compliant with all Nillumbik grants previously awarded by Council
- Deliver and acquit the initiative before 1 June 2023
Note Grant applicants that partner with other community groups, organisations or agencies (including local fire brigades) are strongly encouraged to apply.
