Does your organisation’s charitable work help to make Essex safer or support victims of crime? You could receive a grant from The High Sheriffs’ Fund.
The Essex Community Foundation Vision remains to encourage strong, generous communities – an Essex where everyone works together to enhance the quality of local life.
Each year they award around £5 million in grants to charities and voluntary organisations that are working across Essex every day. They provide support at the grass roots of their communities helping people of all ages and they are pleased to share some of their inspiring stories. They add new stories all the time and hope you enjoy reading them.
Where they can give support:
- Any voluntary or community or not-for-profit organisation working to a charitable purpose to benefit local people in Essex, Southend or Thurrock
- A limited number of their funds support individuals. You can make an initial enquiry for yourself or your child.

What they can support:
- Core costs
- Specific projects
- Training opportunities
- Charitable projects that are responding to the coronavirus pandemic
What you need in place:
- A management committee with a minimum of three unrelated people (these are responsible for the organisation and make decisions)
- A signed constitution or set of rules
- A bank account in the name of your group which requires two signatories or dual authorisation
- A Safeguarding Policy if you work with children, young people or vulnerable adults
- An annual budget for your organisation
Eligibility Criteria
- Essex Community Foundation can only fund individuals who live in Essex, Southend or Thurrock
- Thy have a small amount of funding available to support individuals who are living, or have lived, in Essex, Southend or Thurrock. These funds help children and young adults where money is a barrier to them reaching their full potential. It is rare that they are able to support requests from adults.

- Will your work benefit people living in Essex, Southend or Thurrock?
- Do you have three or more Trustees/Decision makers?
- If you answer of these questions are yes, then You are eligible to apply for support!
Ineligible
- For profit businesses
- Contribution to large appeals
- Organisations that give funds or award grants to third parties
- Political campaigning
- The promotion of religion or religious activities that do not benefit the wider public
- Statutory organisations including schools or councils in the discharge of their obligations (PTAs set up as a charity can apply)
- Retrospective funding for activities that have already taken place.
