The Midlothian Council is pleased to announce the Scottish Welfare Fund Programme.
Types of Grants
- The Scottish Welfare Fund offers two types of grants:
- Crisis Grants may help if you are in crisis because of a disaster, like a fire or flood, or an emergency such as losing all your money or having to visit a sick child in hospital.
- Community Care may help if you are about to leave care to live on your own in the community, or to help if you are struggling to provide a safe and secure home for your family.
Eligibility Criteria
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- Normally you will be entitled to:
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (and have no other household income)
- Employment and Support Allowance (and have no other household income)
- Pension Credit
- You may be entitled to a Scottish Welfare Fund Award if:
- you live in Midlothian, and you need help because of an emergency or a crisis
- or you need help to remain or settle in the community.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Crises Grant
- You should not apply for a Crisis Grant if you have:
- other money that you can use for the things you need
- already had three Crisis Grants or awards made to you in the last 12 months. This does not include Social Fund applications before April 2013
- plied for a Crisis Grant for the same things within the last 28 days and nothing has changed.
- You should not apply for a Crisis Grant if you have:
- Community Care Grant
- You should not apply for a Community Care Grant if you:
- have savings of £700 or more and you are under pension age, or savings of £1200 or more and you are over pension age. Your application for a Community Care Grant will not be successful unless there is a reason why you cannot use these savings
- are in care, are not leaving care within 8 weeks or have not been in care for 3 months or more
- have applied for a Community Care Grant for the same things within the last 28 days and nothing has changed.
