The Mumbulla Community Foundation (formerly Mumbulla Foundation), in partnership with Bega Valley Shire Council, has provided annual Community Grants.
For 2022, in addition to the annual contribution from Mumbulla Community Foundation and Bega Valley Shire Council, they have been able to secure significant funding through the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program and from Global Giving’s Australian Wildfire Fund.
The Mumbulla Foundation grants provide funding to charitable and not for profit organisations for projects that benefit people living in the Bega Valley Shire. Its primary objective is to help locally based groups who are providing and/or creating opportunities and services which may not be readily available in the Valley. They include those providing valuable services for the aged, disabled, youth, families, children and other people in need, as well as those involved in arts and cultural activities, organisations concerned with education, community learning and the region’s heritage and environment
Funding Information
The total value of the annual grants program has been around $50,000 – $25,000 from Mumbulla Community Foundation and $25,000 from Bega Valley Shire Council.
In 2022/23 Annual Grants are available for:
- Small projects up to $2,000
- Projects between $2000 and $10,000
- A small number of large projects up to $20,000
Eligible Activities
- The following types of projects may be considered for funding:
- Music, theatre, arts or cultural activities or events
- Local community festivals
- Workshops, seminars, forums
- Training, support for volunteers
- Community education, environmental, and health projects
- Projects and initiatives must be related to the bushfire recovery process underway within local communities
- Projects that focus on building community connectedness, particularly initiatives focused on and / or led by youth
- Place based events that benefit a community – particularly events run by youth
- Initiatives that enhance social connections and wellbeing of people experiencing isolation and other vulnerabilities post bushfires – including older, independent women
- Projects that support young people through education and leadership opportunities
- Initiatives that encourage volunteering
- Projects founded on social justice principles
- Initiatives that demonstrate collaboration and partnerships
Eligibility Criteria
- All applications are considered on merit and in line with the themes of the BVSC Community Strategic Plan and link to supporting the Bega Valley Community in recovery from the Black Summer Bushfires and building resilience to any such future event. Funding is aimed at value adding to the delivery of worthwhile projects. Grants are not provided for core operational purposes, for major capital works or to fund completed or ongoing projects.
- To be eligible for grant applicants must:
- Be incorporated, have an ABN, or be supported (auspiced) by an organisation that is incorporated and has an ABN
- Be not-for-profit
- Be located in the Bega Valley Shire with the exception of those located on the Shire boundaries which provide services to people living in, or with demonstrated cultural connections to, the Shire (e.g. Wallaga Lake)
- Be capable of running the project to completion and/or not be trading insolvently
- Be committed to providing significant in-kind contributions and/or voluntary hours
- Have already obtained Council approval for any project requiring such approval
- Provide a quote for all purchases (estimates for projects under $1,000, a least one quote for projects between $1,000 and $5,000, a detailed project budget and at least two quotes for major items for projects over $5,000).
- Have acquitted and met any conditions of previous grants
Criteria
- Successful applicants will need to meet the following requirements and conditions:
- Accepting a Mumbulla Community Foundation Grant will create a binding agreement between Mumbulla Community Foundation and the signatory
- Sign and return a Mumbulla Community Foundation Funding Agreement, that will outline the recipients details, the grant project, timeframe and expected outcomes
- The grant must be used for the activity which it is provided
- Any changes to the proposed use of the grant must be agreed to in writing by the Mumbulla Community Foundation
- If the grant is not spent in accordance with the agreement, the full amount is repayable
- The grant does not commit the Mumbulla Community Foundation to future support for the activity or any other activity run by the applicant
- Any unspent funds must be returned to the Mumbulla Community Foundation
- Mumbulla Community Foundation, Bega Valley Shire Council, Global Giving and the Australian Federal Government must be acknowledged on all promotional material
- You must attend the grant presentation ceremony (usually held in Bega) to receive your grant. At this time a representative of your group will be asked to give a brief (1-2 minutes) synopsis of your project
- Acknowledge the source of funding for your project in any publicity inclusive of social media, websites, press releases and all other publications and display the logo of Mumbulla Community Foundation Bega Valley Shire Council, Global Giving and the Australian Government
- Advise Mumbulla Community Foundation of any public opening of a project. Under the BSBR funding, they have an obligation to notify the local member’s office of any such event
- Submit a final report/acquittal. An acquittal will be required within 30 days of project completion or by the date outlined in the funding agreement. Appropriate records must be kept including receipts and photos (e.g., before/after, volunteers in action, the items in use)
- The Mumbulla Community Foundation may use information provided in your application and final report to inform potential sponsors, donors and the wider community of funded outcomes. Permission from parents or guardians should be obtained before providing photos of children or young people
Ineligible
- Funding will NOT be considered for the following projects and/or organisations:
- Vehicles, equipment maintenance, or for the planning and design work required for such projects
- Major capital equipment
- On-going salaries for permanent or casual positions created to provide ongoing services
- Travel expenses which do not contribute directly to the delivery of the aims and objectives of the group during the period of the grant
- Completed projects
- Sporting bodies
- Animal welfare organisations
- Religious or political activities
- Commercial enterprises fundraising activities
- Research projects or any projects required for an educational course or degree
- Insurance premiums for public liability or other risks
- Projects already fully funded by a Local, State or Federal government agency
- For core operational purposes or to fund ongoing projects on an annual basis
