The Government of South Australia is accepting applications for the Richard Llewellyn Deaf and Disability Grants.
This grant supports professional development opportunities for individual artists and arts workers who are deaf or identify as a person with disability to undertake skills development and training that is relevant to their arts practice or professional practice as an arts or cultural worker.
Funding Information
- Applicants can apply for two types of Professional Development grants:
- First-step grants support first-time Deaf and disabled applicants in the early stages of their professional arts practice (up to $3,000).
- Individual grants assist with professional development for professional practicing Deaf and disabled artists and art workers (up to $10,000).

- mentoring
- short courses (including arts-related business courses)
- work placement, secondment
- masterclasses
- workshops
- attendance at conferences
- arts residencies
- attachment to festivals or arts organizations, internships
What this category funds
- accommodation
- administration/ support costs
- artists’ fees
- conference/workshop/masterclass fees
- travel, living allowance
- mentoring fees
- materials (directly related to the development opportunity)
- studio hire fees, venue, and equipment
- short course fees
- auspicing fees
Please note, in the case of a residency, the host organization is expected to make a significant contribution towards your placement. If your professional development features appearances at writers’ festivals, the publisher or festival should be contributing substantially towards your costs of attending.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individual artists who are Deaf or identify as a person with a disability
- Individual arts and cultural workers who are deaf or identify as a person with a disability
- Arts and cultural organizations may submit and/or auspice grants on behalf of artists and arts and cultural workers who are deaf or identify as a person with a disability
Ineligible Criteria
- Groups and organizations (unless auspicing artists and arts and cultural workers)
- Individuals who are not Deaf or do not identify as a person with a disability
