The SSE Renewables is now inviting applications for its Sustainable Development Fund.
The Sustainable Development Fund is in addition to their local community funds and supports strategic projects in the regions where SSE is operating.
SSE Renewables and Clyde Wind Farm (Scotland) Ltd created the Sustainable Development Fund as part of its voluntary community benefit arrangements from its onshore renewable energy developments in South Lanarkshire including the Clyde Wind Farm.
Aims
- The fund is to be used to provide support for strategic projects in the South Lanarkshire region and any successful application must meet one or more of the following outcomes:
- Creating opportunities: Create opportunities for education and employment through activities that develop skills and improve an individual’s chance of entering the workplace.
- Empowering communities: Empower communities to become more resilient through measures which demonstrate long-term social, environmental or economic improvements.
- Sustainable places: Stimulate meaningful regeneration to improve or enhance local infrastructure, landscape, biodiversity or heritage and make a lasting difference to the places they live, work and visit.
Supports
- They can’t support projects which
- Have a political or religious purpose
- Subsidise the costs of energy consumption
- Are for purposes adverse to SSE’s interest
- Replace statutory funding; or
- Support individuals for their personal gain
Funding Information
- In this round the fund is worth a total of £600,000. You can apply for funding from £10,000 up to a maximum of the fund’s total value.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for funding, your project must benefit communities that lie wholly within the South Lanarkshire local authority area. You don’t need to be a registered charity to apply, but your organisation must have a constitution and not be set up for individual profit.
- They want to help empower communities and fund projects that deliver real benefits to their areas. A wide range of projects are considered for funding each year including new and innovative ideas. They have some guidance on who and what is eligible for funding, but if you have any questions please get in touch.
- You can apply for a grant if you are:
- A legally-constituted community group
- A non-profit organisation
- A registered charity
- The community fund can support projects which:
- Creating opportunities – increase opportunities for education and employment
- Empowering communities – build resilience and protect vulnerable residents
- Building sustainable places – stimulate meaningful community regeneration
- Projects in the following areas can apply:
- Dumfries and Galloway
- Highlands
- North Lincolnshire
- Perth and Kinross
- Scottish Borders
- South Lanarkshire
