Deadline: 10-Jun-22
The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP) Office of Multilateral Affairs at the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announces this Notice of Funding Opportunity (“NOFO”) for the Mekong Health Innovation Program.
This program will connect Mekong researchers and health innovators to USG experts and the tools they have created for researching health security-related issues or informing health security policies, especially application of the One Health approach. In doing so, they will foster stronger relationships between USG and Mekong based researchers and support heightened awareness about how USG contributes to improving health in the Mekong, raising the profile of Mekongfocused research to drive collaboration and interest in the Mekong’s unique and shared health security challenges.
The program should also consider health security research through a crosscutting lens of gender, working to dismantle systemic gender barriers through increasing women’s participation in scientific research where it has historically been limited and not publicly presented. The mentorship aspect of the program should include a component on how to encourage gender equality and female empowerment within scientific research.
Objectives
- Create a transnational network between Mekong and USG researchers and practitioners focused on health security, especially using the One Health approach.
- Provide funding for Mekong researchers to carry out proposed research projects related to health security in the Mekong, including those using the tools discussed in meetings with USG experts.

- EAP anticipates having approximately $691,250 of FY 2021 and FY 2017/2022 Economic Support Funds (ESF) available to support one successful application submitted in response to this NOFO, subject to the ability of funding.
- Applicants should include an anticipated start date between August and September 2022 and the period of performance should be 36 months.
