Thomson Reuters Foundation: Seeking Applications for Reporting on Rural Poverty and Agricultural Progress

Deadline: 9 November 2018

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is seeking applications for its program entitled “Reporting on Rural Poverty and Agricultural Progress”.

In order to ensure that the daily issues faced by the poor and their communities in rural areas are recognized, it is important that their stories are heard and their voices amplified. With funds from the Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the specialized agency of the UN, they will call journalists from all over Latin America to participate in this workshop, which aims to facilitate the work of journalists when they have to tell the story of rural progress . This course aims to generate a specific knowledge expertise and increase familiarity and understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities. It also aims to contribute so that journalists can present new points of view.

Participants will visit projects sponsored by IFAD near Lima and will have the opportunity to listen and interview regional leaders and experts.

This course should not be seen as an isolated workshop. In fact, they intend that all journalists who are selected to attend the workshop, return to their countries of origin to cover and tell stories related to these issues.

Funding

The Thomson Reuters Foundation, with funds and support from IFAD, offers full scholarships for journalists from Latin American and Central American countries who work for established media organizations. The scholarships include air tickets (tourist class), accommodation, local transfers and meals. Bear in mind that applicants need to show that they have the corresponding visas to travel and make sure they have all the necessary documentation. The cost of the visa and any other related expenses are the sole responsibility of the participant. This provision is subject to variations.
