Deadline: 13-Nov-2025

The Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program provides vital provincial funding to support road and bridge projects along designated connecting link highways across Ontario.

These links play a critical role in facilitating the safe and efficient movement of provincial traffic, making this program an important investment in infrastructure and public safety.

The program is designed with clear objectives to ensure long-term impact. Funding is directed toward projects that address urgent and critical improvement needs, extend the life of road and bridge assets, and provide cost-effective solutions tailored to each connecting link’s requirements. By prioritizing projects that meet these objectives, the ministry ensures that investments contribute not only to improved infrastructure but also to safer, more reliable travel for communities and provincial traffic.

Funding support under the Connecting Links Program is substantial, with the ministry covering up to 90% of eligible project costs. Municipalities may receive up to $5 million per road project and up to $7 million for bridge projects. Applications must include a detailed scope of work and cost estimates, allowing the ministry to assess both current conditions and long-term needs. This process helps establish a multi-year investment strategy that directs funds where they are most urgently required.

Eligibility extends to all 77 Ontario municipalities that have designated Connecting Links, which collectively span 352 kilometres of roads and 70 bridges. Each municipality may submit one project annually if it has a single connecting link, while municipalities with more than one designated link may submit up to two projects each year.

By strengthening critical infrastructure, the Connecting Links Program ensures that municipalities across Ontario can maintain safe, efficient transportation routes that serve local communities while supporting the broader movement of traffic throughout the province.
