CFPs: Host for the Global Nutrition Cluster Rapid Response Team (Switzerland)

Deadline: 03-Oct-2025

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is spearheading an initiative based in Canton de Genève, Switzerland, focused on strengthening nutrition in emergencies through the deployment of a Rapid Response Team (RRT).

This team plays a critical role in enhancing coordination and effectiveness during humanitarian crises, ensuring timely and well-organized nutrition interventions.

The RRT supports Nutrition Cluster Coordinators at both national and sub-national levels by providing expert guidance to develop and implement effective strategies and response plans. This support strengthens coordination structures, making emergency responses more efficient and impactful.

A major component of the RRT’s work is improving information management systems. Information Management Officers within the team establish and maintain robust systems for accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting. This ensures decisions are based on solid evidence, enabling more targeted and efficient nutrition responses.

The team also contributes to better humanitarian response planning by providing high-quality inputs for essential documents such as Humanitarian Needs Overviews (HNOs) and Humanitarian Response Plans (HRPs). This input helps countries to design well-informed strategies that address urgent nutrition needs effectively.

Capacity building is another key outcome, as the RRT offers mentoring, training, and technical guidance to local actors, partners, and cluster coordination teams. This fosters sustainable leadership and strengthens national capacity to manage nutrition emergencies independently.

The RRT is equipped to provide rapid and flexible surge support, with the ability to deploy both remotely and on-site. This flexibility ensures that coordination and information management gaps are promptly addressed, maintaining continuity in emergency response efforts.

Lastly, the presence of the RRT enhances preparedness and advocacy at both country and global levels. Improved preparedness measures ensure quicker and more effective responses to future crises, while stronger advocacy promotes the prioritization of nutrition in emergency settings worldwide. Through these combined efforts, UNICEF’s initiative in Geneva aims to save lives and improve nutrition outcomes during humanitarian emergencies.
