Deadline: 15-Oct-2025
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has announced a new opportunity for farmer groups located in Kenya’s Lake Region Economic Block through its TUNZA project.
This opportunity offers farmer groups the chance to join farmer field schools where they will receive two years of technical support and training. This includes guidance on sustainable production, harvesting, processing, and marketing, tailored land restoration efforts, as well as resilience-building measures to adapt to climate risks. Participating farmers will also gain access to improved market opportunities and skills that can lead to higher incomes.
The initiative aims to restore, conserve, and reforest community lands, forests, and wetlands in the target area, and is expected to generate environmental benefits through climate change mitigation. A further goal is to create green employment for youth in agriculture and related sectors.
To be eligible, groups must be based in one of the designated counties in the Lake Region Economic Block, have a valid registration certificate, have at least 25 members, and already be participating in one of the six value chains listed. Only one application per group is permitted. Applications can be submitted electronically, farmer cooperatives and community groups have an opportunity to strengthen their agricultural practices, increase resilience to climate challenges, restore landscapes, and improve their livelihoods while contributing to sustainable and low-carbon agriculture in Kenya.
