Applications open for Documentary Production: TV Series (Ireland)

Deadline: 28-Jul-2025

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is offering funding for documentary series that are originated and creatively led by Irish directors, producers, and writers. These projects should be developed with both Irish and international audiences in mind, while being primarily managed within Ireland.

The focus is on producing high-quality documentary series with strong international appeal and confirmed market support. Only projects that have already secured some level of international backing will be considered. Screen Ireland requires that all supported projects carry Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance. Additionally, any music or archival material used must be cleared globally, in perpetuity, for all platforms. Non-compliance with these conditions is considered a serious contract violation.

The maximum funding available is €250,000, covering up to 65% of the total project budget. To be eligible, applicants must be Irish producers with access to all necessary rights related to the project. There must also be formal agreements with the director, lead contributors, and screenwriter if one is involved. Ownership rights must be held by the production company, not individual producers. A financial commitment from an international partner such as a distributor, sales agent, or broadcaster is a requirement before applying.

Applicants must submit a logline, a detailed synopsis, and a treatment including episode outlines. They must also provide notes on the underlying concept, access and connections, the development plan, creative motivation and visual approach, and include examples of the visual style. A complete global budget and a breakdown of Irish creative expenditure are required. Additionally, applicants must submit a strategy for audience engagement and market positioning, along with proof of international financial backing and ownership rights.
