Applications open for Working Grants in Germany

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation announces Grants for Artistic Creation (Portugal)

Deadline: 10-Nov-2025

The Art Foundation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt is inviting applications for its Working Grants program, aimed at promoting individual artistic achievements. The grants are intended to support artists in focusing on new projects by providing them with time and resources to work without distraction.

The foundation funds projects across various disciplines, including fine and applied arts, artistic photography, performing arts, literature, music, film (only for screenplays and project development), design, architecture, media art, and interdisciplinary work. Projects are evaluated based on originality, quality, and feasibility.

The program aims to encourage innovation within the regional art scene, support outstanding projects, launch initiatives that effectively promote the arts, increase the visibility of Saxony-Anhalt, and shape long-term artistic priorities and programs.

Selected artists receive a monthly scholarship of 1,500 euros. The funding usually lasts for 3 or 6 months and can be extended to a maximum of 12 months in justified cases.

Projects must be of high artistic quality, with national or international relevance, unique or experimental approaches, and meaningful themes that engage the public. Projects aimed at children and youth or those that cross artistic boundaries are especially encouraged.

Freelance artists who are primarily self-employed and reside in Saxony-Anhalt are eligible to apply. Grants are awarded to individuals only. If part of a collective or group, each artist must apply separately.

Students, pupils, and individuals currently in training are not eligible to apply.
