Call for Proposals: Institutional Grants Scheme in North Macedonia

Improving Citizen Participation and Accountability in Local Government Service Delivery Processes in Health and Education - Uganda

Deadline: 17-Oct-2025

The Heartefact’s Culture for Development project is announcing the second Call for Institutional Grants Scheme to support well-established cultural organizations in the Republic of North Macedonia.

A unique opportunity has emerged for cultural organizations in the Republic of North Macedonia through the second Institutional Grants Scheme under the Culture for Development project. This initiative, supported by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by Heartefact Fund, aims to bolster the cultural sector in the country from 2024 to 2028. The project’s primary goal is to nurture a vibrant and resilient cultural ecosystem, recognizing culture as a powerful tool for fostering open, democratic, and interconnected societies.

The call invites well-established cultural organizations to apply for financial support that will help strengthen their organizational and financial capabilities. With a grant of up to 3,820,000 MKD, organizations can ensure the sustainability and growth of their operations. The funding will be distributed over a period of two years and seven months, with two annual installments and a final installment towards the end of the grant period. This financial assistance will cover essential operational and infrastructural costs, providing organizations the flexibility to plan and implement their programs effectively.

Eligible organizations are those that produce high-quality cultural content, particularly in fields such as critical theory, feminism, visual arts, performance, and social activism. Their work should have a national impact, extending beyond local communities and contributing to the development of the cultural and democratic landscape of North Macedonia. The support provided will allow these organizations to focus on their long-term objectives while improving their operational capacity and expanding their influence in the cultural sector.

An important aspect of the grant is the mandatory mentorship program, which will be provided by Helvetas, an experienced partner in organizational development. The mentorship is designed to strengthen the governance and management capacities of the selected organizations, ensuring their long-term sustainability. The program will address various areas, including financial management, partnership development, and strategic growth, all tailored to meet the unique needs of each recipient.

The Culture for Development project also integrates key values of environmental sustainability, social inclusion, diversity, and decentralization. Emphasis is placed on supporting marginalized groups, such as youth and women, and promoting gender equality as a driver of creativity and innovation. This holistic approach ensures that the cultural sector not only thrives but also contributes to a more inclusive and socially responsible society.

For cultural organizations in North Macedonia, this call represents an invaluable opportunity to secure the necessary support for continued growth, expand their impact, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s cultural and democratic development.
