Call for Submissions: Co-Production Funding (Kenya)

#image_title

Deadline: 20-Nov-2025

The Kenya Film Commission, in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is inviting established Kenyan producers who have partnered with international co-producers to apply for partial funding support for their film projects to strengthen Kenya’s presence on the global film stage.

This initiative is designed for Kenyan producers who have already laid the groundwork for an international co-production. The goal is to provide partial funding that will elevate projects by securing key resources, enhancing production value, or facilitating cross-border collaboration. The mission is to select two outstanding co-production projects and provide them with partial funding support to move forward with confidence. This support aims to showcase rich, diverse, and co-created narratives on a global platform by supporting the exchange of knowledge, skills, and resources. The Kenya Film Commission and the organizing parties will not claim any rights for the projects supported.

The Kenya Film Commission seeks to empower Kenyan producers who have formed credible partnerships with international producers, offering financial assistance of up to Ksh 1.7 million to each of the two selected film projects. This funding is intended to propel productions forward, enhance their ability to compete internationally, and strengthen creative collaborations between local and global film professionals.

Applicants must be established Kenyan production companies with a proven track record and a specific film project ready for international co-production. The international co-producer can be registered in any country outside Kenya and is expected to contribute their own funding. The focus is on projects that champion authentic Kenyan stories while maximizing the creative potential of international partnerships.

The Kenya Film Commission encourages projects that prioritize gender equity and represent diverse voices and perspectives both on-screen and behind the camera. By participating, producers will gain access to broader networks of international industry experts, enhance production quality, and benefit from knowledge exchange with their co-production team.

All project milestones must be completed by 31st March 2026, and selected projects will be announced on 1st December 2025. This opportunity is not just a financial boost but a strategic investment in building Kenya’s film industry reputation globally while nurturing inclusive, collaborative storytelling.
