Deadline: 31-Jan-23
Applications are now open for Institut Für Auslandsbeziehungen’s (ifa) Exhibition Funding Programme to support international exhibition projects in public museums, cultural institutions and galleries abroad.
The programme is open to contemporary German artists and artists with at least five years of residency in Germany. Funding is available for solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, participation in an international exhibition project or a biennial abroad.
Whom Is the Program Designed for?
- The program is aimed at contemporary visual artists who have been living in Germany for at least 5 years.
- Applications can be made for solo exhibitions and participation in collective exhibitions, such as biennials, which take place outside of Germany.
- In the case of applications for biennials or other collective exhibitions, ifa only accepts joint applications, including all participating visual artists from Germany. If this is not possible, please contact us.
Funding Principles
- Financial contributions are made for transport, artists' traveling expenses and technical equipment if required for the presentation of the exhibition.
- If an artist does not have German citizenship, it has to be indicated since when he has been a resident of Germany. He must have lived in Germany for a minimum of 5 years (appropriate evidence, eg registration certificate, required).
- Exhibition funding in the home country of artists without German nationality is inadmissible.
- Applications must reach ifa by 31 January or by 15 August (the postmark is valid). Submissions after the deadline cannot be considered. Accepted and valid applications are submitted to an independent committee of experts. The committee meets twice a year.
- Decisions on funding are also made on the basis of the budget available to ifa in this context and in relation to other applications.
- The decision‐making process is not disclosed and subject to secrecy. Denied applications cannot be submitted again. Recourse to legal action is out of question.
- An exhibition that has already started cannot be funded retroactively. Accrued expenses before their funding decision cannot be considered.
- Exhibition projects by students cannot be supported.
- When carrying out a project, expenditure from funds can be made only if compatible with general Federal budgeting principles
- Financial support by the German Foreign Office or the Goethe‐Institute and by the 'Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen' as well is inadmissible for reasons of budgetary law.
Funding Requirements
- High standards of artistic quality
- Invitation by a non‐commercial foreign exhibition institution (not a private gallery).
- Considerable achievements in its own right by the foreign institution concerned
- Submission of an application implies acceptance of the funding principles and requirements defined in this document.
