The Internet Operations Research Grants support the development of an independent Internet research community whose results can improve the availability, reliability, and security of the Internet in the Asia Pacific region, and widen its coverage, applications and benefit for the community.
Funding Information
Applicants can apply for an amount between AUD 5,000 and AUD 45,000 based on the research needs, a realistic timeframe and a detailed budget.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications accepted for full review will be scored by all Committee members based on selection criteria. Only proposals accepted by full consensus of the Selection Committee will be granted funding. The proposals will be assessed based on the criteria below:
- Aligned with Research grants purpose/scope
- Clear benefit for Internet operations: Applications must provide concrete information about how the proposed research will benefit Internet operations, addressing research needs that have been clearly identified in the Asia Pacific region, and its links to other existing research groups or projects at regional/global level. A plan for potential for growth and/or further development will be desirable
- Clear objectives, well structured methodology
- Demonstrated research capacity: Applicants should demonstrate their research capacity and evidence of a supporting environment where the research can be undertaken, whether in an academic or industry environment. In addion, applicants should demonstrate capacity to manage funds, conduct project activities and document outcomes effectively, within the specified budget and time limits
- Project proposals submitted by public or private sector organizations, university, or research and development institutions and non-government organizations will be considered. Members of Network Operators Groups (NOGs), members/partners of IXPs, operators of rootservers, and academics and postgraduate students are encouraged to apply
- Potential for growth/further development
- Engagement within the community relevant to this research
- Addressing research needs that have been clearly identified
- Relationship with other existing projects at a regional/global level
- Realistic timeframe proposed. Administrative overheads will not be funded. Project proposals exceeding that maximum grant amount and timeline must specify where the additional funds will be obtained to bring the project to completion. The ISIF Asia program may decide to partially fund a proposal.
