The Department of Science and Technology is requesting applications for its Raman–Charpak Fellowship Program to improve the doctoral skills of Indian and French students by providing them an opportunity to carry out part of their research work in a University/Research & Development Institute based in France or India respectively.

Eligible Fields: Atmospheric Sciences, Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences, Materials Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Biological Sciences, Life and Medical Sciences, Mathematical and Computational Sciences, Agricultural Sciences.

The duration of the fellowship ranges from a minimum of two months to a maximum of five months. Selected Indian fellows will receive a fellowship support of 1710 Euros per month, covering daily expenses, local travel, accommodation, and social security charges. French fellows will receive Rs. 40,000 per month for daily expenses and local travel, with accommodation support not exceeding Rs. 45,000 per month.

Additional benefits include to and fro economy-class airfare between India and France, insurance coverage, and administrative cost support for visa and registration processes. Fellows may also receive additional funding up to Euro 500 (or equivalent in Indian Rupees) to participate in seminars or workshops during their stay.

This programme is open to French Master students who wish to spend time in India as part of their academic curriculum. It aims to enhance the research skills of French Master’s students by providing them with an opportunity to undertake internship work at a University or Research Institute in India. The initiative also allows both Indian and French scholars to gain exposure to the current research methods and trends in each other’s countries while discovering new cultural contexts.

The fellowship is dedicated to PhD students registered in an Indian or French Research Institute or University, as well as French Master’s students. It provides an excellent opportunity to carry out part of their respective PhD or Master’s research projects in each other’s countries, establish professional relationships, promote new scientific and technological cooperation, and experience diverse cultural environments.

Eligible Indian applicants must be Indian citizens residing in India, registered for a PhD in a recognized Indian university or research institution, and in their second or third year of study. French applicants must be residing in France and enrolled in a recognized PhD or Master’s program, with a maximum age of 30 years as of 1st April 2025.

Applicants previously supported by CEFIPRA or holding permanent positions are not eligible. Both Indian and French candidates must obtain prior consent from their respective universities or institutions before applying.

Applications must be submitted online only, accompanied by all required documents as specified. For PhD applicants, the required documents include a detailed research proposal, CV, letters of recommendation from supervisors, synopsis of PhD work, research experience proof, No Objection Certificate (for Indian applicants), valid passport, and a recent photograph.

For French Master’s students, the documents include academic certificates, proof of registration, research plan, CV, recommendation letters, research experience, passport, and a photograph.

Awarded fellows must submit a valid travel itinerary after the results are declared. Any request to reduce the fellowship duration must be justified and supported by recommendation letters from both PhD and host supervisors, ensuring the final duration remains within the two to five-month limit. Fellows opting for a stay exceeding three months will follow procedures through Campus France.

Applicants are required to follow the prescribed formats and naming conventions for all documents before uploading. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. The last date for submission is 10th December 2025.
