Applicants must demonstrate that their work directly supports LGBTQ individuals or communities impacted by humanitarian emergencies (e.g. forced displacement) and social crises (e.g., political oppression leading to displacement, systemic discrimination leading to displacement). Applications should align with the Crisis Response Fund’s core objectives, including providing immediate relief and support to LGTQ communities affected by displacement, building resilience and long-term solutions for those affected by or experiencing displacement, and advancing human rights and dignity during crisis that could be a driver of displacement. Applicants are advised to refer to the relevant geographic region when applying. Each funding round is specific to a certain region at that time. The fund prioritizes applications from regions experiencing existing and/or emerging crises or emergencies with insufficient resources and acute needs due to systemic neglect or geopolitical challenges.
This opportunity is designed to assist organizations and individuals working directly with LGBTQ communities facing humanitarian or social crises that lead to displacement. Applicants must ensure that their proposed projects address the urgent needs of those affected while contributing to long-term resilience and human rights advancement.
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations with legal registration and a track record of effective work in crisis response and displacement. Community-based grassroots organizations, whether registered or unregistered, that directly serve LGBTQI+ populations in crisis situations are also encouraged to apply. In addition, individual advocates or experts with a proven ability to lead impactful initiatives addressing displacement challenges are eligible for consideration.
Small, medium-sized grassroots organizations (registered or unregistered) and individuals are encouraged to apply for one-time micro funding up to CAD $15,000. This funding aims to provide flexible and rapid support to locally led efforts that address the immediate and long-term needs of LGBTQ communities affected by crises.
The fund does not support political campaigns, lobbying activities, or for-profit enterprises. Projects that do not align with the fund’s mission or fail to demonstrate measurable impact for LGBTQ, refugee, or internally displaced communities will not be considered for funding.
Applicants should pay close attention to the geographic scope of each funding round to ensure alignment with the targeted regions and priorities of the fund. Regions experiencing severe crises or limited access to resources are given special consideration in the selection process.
