Call for Entries: Reviving Food Systems for Resilience and Recovery in Aleppo (Syria)

Deadline: 22-Oct-2025

The World Food Programme is spearheading a vital initiative aimed at restoring and strengthening livelihoods in conflict-affected, food-insecure communities within Syria’s Aleppo Governorate.

This programme focuses on addressing deep-rooted inefficiencies and vulnerabilities in local food systems, spanning production, processing, and market access.

Central to the initiative is the rehabilitation of natural resource management and agricultural infrastructure. By restoring productivity and enhancing climate resilience, the programme seeks to help communities adapt to environmental challenges while revitalizing their agricultural base.

WFP also aims to strengthen value chains, empowering smallholder farmers by improving market linkages and boosting their incomes. This support is expected to reduce food insecurity by creating more sustainable and profitable agricultural opportunities.

Beyond immediate recovery, the initiative emphasizes building long-term resilience in food systems to foster self-reliance. By reducing dependency on humanitarian aid, WFP hopes to enable communities in Aleppo to secure their own food futures and rebuild livelihoods more sustainably.

The project encompasses diverse activities, including cash and voucher assistance, community mobilization, forestry production, microfinance, and smallholder agricultural market support, all designed to holistically restore the local economy and food security.
