Call for EOIs: Strategic Opportunity Fund (Nigeria)

Nigeria

Deadline: 12-Oct-2025

The ActionAid Nigeria (AAN), in partnership with Global Affairs Canada (GAC), through the Renewed Women’s Rights and Leadership (RWVL) Project, is pleased to announce a Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) for Strategic Opportunity Funding (SOF) to support advocacy interventions aimed at influencing the passage of the ongoing Special Seats Bill for Women in Nigeria.

Under this call, single organizations may apply for grants of up to ₦5,000,000, while consortia of two to four organizations may seek up to ₦20,000,000. Each consortium must clearly allocate roles among partners and ensure the lead organization does not take more than 30 percent of the total grant. This arrangement encourages collaboration and shared ownership of the advocacy efforts.

To apply, organizations must be women-led, or networks or movements operating in Nigeria, with demonstrable involvement in issues of women’s political participation or representation. Proposed interventions should be strategic, timely, and clearly linked to influencing the Special Seats Bill. Proposals should articulate how they close advocacy or policy gaps, add value to ongoing efforts of civil society and women’s rights actors, and deliver measurable impact. Applicants must also show they have the systems needed for managing grant funds and reporting.

Preference will be given to women’s rights organizations already engaged on the Special Seats Bill, those with strong track records in mobilization and advocacy, and groups especially focused on inclusion—young women, rural women, and women with disabilities. These priorities reflect a desire not only to pass the bill but to strengthen an advocacy ecosystem that is inclusive, resilient, and community-rooted.

The required materials include a profile of the organization, description of the proposed intervention, implementation timeline, budget, and evidence of financial and reporting capacity.

By launching this funding initiative, ActionAid Nigeria and Global Affairs Canada aim to bolster strategic, catalytic interventions that can propel forward the Special Seats Bill, strengthening women’s representation and voice in Nigeria’s political processes. For women’s rights groups and advocacy networks with bold, timely ideas, this SOF presents a unique chance to contribute to a landmark policy shift.
