Call for Expression of Interest: Capacity Building for Solar-Powered WASH Systems

The project focuses on WASH and Environment, specifically on energy and water. It will be implemented in several countries including Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (Tshuapa), Bangladesh (Mymensingh Division), Madagascar (Antananarivo Province), and Nepal (Gandaki Province).

UNICEF is responding to the growing gap between the demand for solar-powered water systems and the existing technical capacity to design, install, and maintain them effectively. Poorly designed or maintained systems can lead to unsustainable water services, environmental damage, and wasted investment. To address this, the selected partner will provide Helpdesk support for solar-powered water systems and deliver structured training programs in multiple languages and formats.

The partnership includes developing and delivering four key training courses: a basic course for solar-powered water systems, an advanced course, a course on operation and maintenance, and a youth-focused course. These courses will be offered both in-person and online, in English and French, targeting participants ranging from beginners to technical professionals. The training will cover key principles such as site selection, water demand estimation, solar array design, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring systems are built for sustainability and resilience.

This collaboration will provide global technical support to UNICEF country offices, enabling them to integrate solar-powered water systems across schools, healthcare facilities, and communities. In doing so, the program aligns with UNICEF’s broader mission to promote climate-resilient services, efficient water management, and renewable energy integration.
