CFAs: Resilience and Livelihood Activities in Deir Ezzor District (Syria)

Deadline: 22-Oct-2025

The World Food Programme has launched a targeted initiative in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Syria, aimed at revitalizing agricultural livelihoods and improving food security for vulnerable farming communities.

The programme seeks to address key challenges in agricultural productivity by investing in infrastructure, capacity building, and direct support to small-scale farmers.

A major component of the initiative involves the rehabilitation of irrigation systems and the provision of essential agricultural inputs. By improving access to water for cultivation and restoring key infrastructure, WFP aims to boost crop yields and enable sustainable food production in the region.

Farmers will also benefit from technical training focused on climate-smart agricultural practices, post-harvest handling, and market access strategies. These skills are essential for long-term resilience, helping communities adapt to changing environmental conditions and improve their economic prospects.

To directly support vulnerable households, WFP will provide agricultural inputs such as seeds and tools, enabling the cultivation of up to 10 donums of land per household. This assistance is expected to restore livelihoods, improve household food security, and reduce dependency on humanitarian aid.

In addition to agricultural support, the programme will integrate cash and voucher assistance, community mobilization, forestry production, and microfinance opportunities. These interventions will work together to strengthen local food systems, empower smallholder farmers, and promote sustainable recovery across Deir ez-Zor.
