The Finnish Science Foundation for Economics and Technology KAUTE is inviting applicants for research in technology and economics to promote the sustainable renewal of Finnish business and society. Grants are targeted for PhD students and young postdoc researchers.
In 2018–2020, the foundation will particularly be supporting research in new fields combining economics and technology. These are, for example, cleantech, finance technology, e-health, e-learning, digital production technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence and blockchain.
The foundation also financially supports education and the creation, assembly and publication of scientific research and data within business and engineering, and awards prizes for significant accomplishments in these fields.
The foundation also has two special funds set up to support sciences outside business and engineering. The Santasalo Fund supports research relating to the cleanliness and hygiene of processes used in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. The Eeva-Liisa Hirvisalo fund supports research focusing on Finland’s indigenous natural resources.
No grants are awarded for basic higher education degree studies, with the exception of study-related travel grants awarded to Aalto University School of Business students by the Foreign Trade Special Fund. No grants are awarded to polytechnic or MBA degree students.
Purpose of Grants
Grants will be awarded for the following purposes:
- To cover travel, research or publishing costs, up to a maximum of 5 000 euros
- Working Grants for young researchers: 6000 euros (3 months), 12 000 euros (6 months) and 22 000 euros (12 months)
Eligibility Criteria
- The Foundation primarily awards grants for PH.D. studies and for young postdoc researchers.
- Grants can be awarded to Finnish citizens, communities or work groups.
- International scholars that have established strong ties with Finnish universities are also eligible.
- Applicants are usually required to have a business or engineering degree or experience from these fields.
