Open Call: Support for Local CBOs/NGOs in Environmental Protection (Central African Republic)

The allocations will enable the submitting organizations to contribute to initiatives that contribute to environmental protection in at least one of the following sectors: collective safeguarding of terrestrial and marine sites, climate-smart and innovative agroecology, co-benefit of access to low-carbon energy sources, and coalition for local, national, and global chemical management.

From these initiatives, provisions should emerge to establish a mechanism to support local authorities in capitalizing on the project’s achievements and ensuring the sustainability and/or reproducibility of activities; plan a project sustainability strategy to perpetuate the achievements and facilitate implementation scaled up by other grassroots communities; facilitate the dissemination and sharing of experiences and knowledge with other rural communities and institutions responsible for environmental protection; take into account the socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 on communities by putting in place measures to reduce the risks of contamination during project implementation; and contribute to the development and well-being of communities by integrating activities that enable beneficiaries to improve their standard of living and/or living environment. Particular attention is given to initiatives that encourage the creation of environmental benefits from sustainable exploitation and management of natural resources, and that include the empowerment of women, Indigenous peoples, and the promotion of youth.

Eligible organizations include grassroots community organizations (CBOs), NGOs, groups, or legally recognized institutions in the Central African Republic with a bank account at a first-class banking establishment such as Ecobank, BGFI, BSIC, or BPMC. Applicants must submit a project proposal in line with the FEM environmental microproject format, with an allocation request not exceeding USD $75,000. Organizations must provide co-financing in cash or in-kind equivalent to the requested allocation and demonstrate capacity to implement the project. Proof of operational presence in the project area and prior accountability for any previous PMF/FEM grants are also required.

To apply, organizations must submit the project proposal including the budget and annexes 1, 2, and 3, an assessment sheet of the CSO’s capacity to implement the project, and a bank document proving the existence of an account with one of the eligible banks. These steps ensure transparency and accountability while facilitating impactful environmental and community initiatives.
