Deadline: 12-Oct-2025
The Search for Common Ground is inviting applications for its Small Grants to address the root causes of violent conflict in and around the Dadaab refugee complex.
This call focuses particularly on empowering women, youth, and persons with disabilities by providing them with platforms, skills, and opportunities to contribute to peacebuilding, climate resilience, and community collaboration.
The initiative seeks to meet two main objectives. The first is to strengthen the capacities of key stakeholders from both refugee and host communities—especially women and youth—to tackle conflict drivers, including those linked to climate change and environmental shocks. The second is to foster tangible benefits from cooperation between refugee and host populations, promoting unity and shared progress.
Applicants can receive funding of up to USD 4,500 per project. All proposed initiatives must be completed within one month, specifically during November 2025. No extensions will be granted, making project feasibility and readiness essential.
To be eligible, applicants must be bona fide residents of the Hagadera and Fafi Hagin refugee camps or host communities of Hagadera (Bore Hole 5) and Fafi Hagin. The call particularly encourages applications from organizations led by or representing women, youth, and persons with disabilities, including disability-led groups.
Projects should aim for broad community impact, not just benefit the applicant’s immediate group. Proposed activities should focus on economic growth with a special emphasis on climate change, waste management, and responses to environmental shocks—key areas linked to the root causes of local tensions.
Applicants must demonstrate environmental sustainability, a clear link between the initiative and their organization’s mission, and the capacity to directly manage and implement the project. Proposals should also outline a strategy for sustaining the project’s impact beyond the initial one-month period and show proof of previous relevant work. Creative, original, and innovative ideas are highly encouraged.
Organizations that received funding in a previous round of this call are not eligible to reapply. However, those who applied and were not selected—if notified—may submit a new proposal under the current criteria.
This funding opportunity is a chance for grassroots organizations to lead the way in building peaceful, resilient communities through inclusive, climate-conscious, and community-driven action.
