They are particularly interested in projects that improve access to early childhood development (ECD), primary and secondary education for children in low-income or rural communities, support Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and migrant children in gaining equitable access to school, provide school supplies, uniforms, textbooks, desks, and exam fee assistance to children at risk of dropping out, promote literacy and reading programs, especially for girls and early learners, strengthen community-based learning spaces such as libraries, after-school programs, or homework clubs, reconstruct or repair classrooms to create safer, more inclusive learning environments, improve safe and reliable transportation to and from school for students in remote areas, enhance teacher and parent engagement in children’s learning, and pilot innovative, low-cost solutions that reduce barriers to education in underserved areas.
This grant opportunity provides funding of up to USD $1,000–$1,500 projects lasting up to 12 months, requiring at least a 25% community contribution either in cash or in-kind. Eligible applicants include registered nonprofit, community-based, or grassroots organizations that are locally led and demonstrate accountability and transparency.
Examples of fundable projects include covering school fees and uniforms for students, establishing reading clubs, providing backpacks and school supplies, supporting transport stipends or bicycles for remote students, purchasing textbooks and teaching materials, equipping community libraries, and offering exam fee support and tutoring sessions. These initiatives aim to create lasting educational impacts within communities while strengthening local leadership.
