UNICEF Partnership Call: Strengthening Immunization Services and Child Protection

The focus areas include training, capacity building and capacity development, general health, health in emergencies, health systems strengthening, and immunization.

The proposed interventions are designed to enhance vaccination coverage, reduce vaccine-preventable diseases, improve equitable access to health services, and promote greater community participation in the health system. Partners are encouraged to apply innovative methods such as mobile outreach teams, digital monitoring tools, and integration with nutrition services to reach vulnerable and displaced populations. All activities must follow national protocols and UNICEF-approved guidelines to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with national immunization systems. Strengthened monitoring and reporting systems will help track vaccine coverage, cold chain performance, stock levels, and community feedback in real time, ensuring adaptive management and accountability.

Service delivery under this programme is led by the Ministry of Health with the support of WHO, UNICEF, and Gavi. The initiative focuses on maintaining routine immunization amidst ongoing conflict and economic challenges, ensuring equitable access for children and women, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Services will be delivered through fixed health facilities, mobile teams, and outreach sessions, with national campaigns addressing outbreaks of measles, polio, and cholera. UNICEF leads vaccine procurement, cold chain management, and community engagement, while WHO provides technical and surveillance support, and Gavi funds vaccine procurement and infrastructure expansion. Key challenges such as insecurity, displacement, workforce shortages, and fuel scarcity will be addressed through digital tools, renewable energy solutions, and strengthened integration of immunization into primary healthcare.

Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) and vaccine management remain critical for maintaining vaccine potency and reliability. This includes cold rooms, freezers, refrigerators, solar-powered systems, temperature monitoring devices, and proper stock and waste management practices. Regular monitoring, maintenance, and training ensure that vaccines reach communities safely and efficiently.

Community engagement and demand generation efforts will focus on addressing vaccine hesitancy and misinformation through Social and Behavior Change (SBC) strategies. Local radio campaigns, SMS outreach, community dialogues, and school-based awareness programs will foster trust and encourage widespread participation in vaccination efforts.
