Applications are open for Water’s Next national awards program to honour the achievements and ideas of individuals and companies that successfully work to change water in the country.
Eligible Projects & Technology
- Drinking Water: Projects and technologies that have benefited municipal treatment and/or conditioning and purification.
- Wastewater: Projects and technologies that manage and treat municipal or industrial wastewater, including non-point source pollution. Candidates may also demonstrate effective resource recovery.
- Water Resources: Projects and technologies that aid in the protection of surface water, groundwater, and aquatic ecosystem management.
- Stormwater: Projects and technologies that efficiently manage and treat stormwater.
- Conveyance: Projects and technologies related to the distribution of water (i.e., everything man-made and designed—from pipes to pumps to valves—that makes water move from source to tap and back.)
- Early Adoption: Project, municipality, government, or company that has taken a risk and adopted an innovative technique or technology to improve water resources.
Eligibility Criteria
- People:
- Business Leader: Person in the private sector that has demonstrated significant leadership and innovation in the water sector.
- Academic Leader: Person in the academic sector that has demonstrated significant leadership, innovation, and scientific excellence in the water sector.
- Non-Government Leader: Person in the non-government sector that has demonstrated significant leadership, innovation, and influence in the water sector.
- Leader, Government: Person in the public sector that has demonstrated significant leadership, innovation, and influence in the public sector, towards the benefit of Canada’s water resources, includes municipalities, agencies, watershed authorities, and First Nations government.
- Leader, Young Professional: Individual under the age of 30 working in the water sector who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, innovation, and growth potential.
- Overall:
- Canadian Water Steward of the Year: Person (from nominees in the People category) who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, innovation, and creativity and whose impact on Canada’s water resources is worthy of national recognition.
- Company of the Year: Company (from companies nominated in the Projects & Technology category.)
