2017 Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP): Inviting Vietnamese Students

7th Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED

Deadline: 16 December 2016

U.S. Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City’s Public Affairs Section (PAS) is inviting applicants for its 2017 Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP). Students in grades 10 and 11 at Vietnamese high schools who demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement and extracurricular activities, and proficiency in English are invited to apply for the program. Up to five scholarships are available for Vietnamese students.

SEAYLP is an exchange program to promote leadership, civic responsibility, volunteerism and respect for diversity. SEAYLP brings together high school students and adult mentors from the ten ASEAN member countries in a three-week, U.S.-based exchange focused on leadership and youth development. In addition, the program will focus on shared challenges the United States and ASEAN face in the 21st century, and will include site visits, workshops, homestays, and a study tour.

SEAYLP strengthens people-to-people ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, engages young leaders, and cultivates the ASEAN community. The exchange will take place in April 2017. Participants are required to implement follow-on projects that serve the needs of their communities in the months that follow their return home.

Benefits

Participant costs for program administration, international and domestic travel, housing, and food are covered by the U.S. Department of State.

Eligibility Criteria

Selection will be based on leadership potential, excellence in academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities, without regard to their field of study, race, religion, or gender. This competition is open to all applicants who meet the following minimum criteria:
