Nominations are now open for the 2022 Women in Community Life Awards recognise and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of women across the Geelong region.
The Annual City of Greater Geelong Women in Community Life Awards welcomes people from all over the region to nominate women for their amazing achievements and contributing to a fairer, more equitable community.
Categories
The seven categories are:
- First Nations Woman in Community Life: This award acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women living and / or working in Geelong, whose leadership and advocacy have improved the lives of people from their community.
- Women in Community Life for Disability Rights: This award acknowledges the achievements and contribution of Geelong women living with a disability.
- Women in Community Life for Leadership in a time of crisis: This award acknowledges the achievements of women who have demonstrated leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Women in Community Life for Leadership in Women’s Health: This award acknowledges the achievements and leadership of women in advancing women’s health outcomes.
- Women in Community Life for Human Rights: This award acknowledges the achievements of women in the promotion, advancement and demonstration of advocacy for human rights.
- Women in Community Life for Education: This award acknowledges the achievements of women in delivering, participating in and achieving educational outcomes.
- Women in Community Life for Climate Action – Disaster and Resilience: This award acknowledges women’s roles in supporting climate action, disaster responses and women’s resilience. The nomination must show how the nominee has played a role in leadership, advocacy and influencing outcomes in relation to the theme.
How winners are chosen?
- Award winners will be selected by a panel made up of Women in Community Life Advisory Committee members, as well as award sponsors and community representatives.
- This year the panel will be contacting nominators (that’s you, if you go ahead and fill out a nomination form) to discuss your nomination in a little more detail.
- Below are some of the characteristics panellists will be looking for:
- leadership within the award category
- clever and creative projects and outcomes
- community impact
- challenging the status quo.
- Each nominee will be contacted to confirm their willingness to progress to the selection stage.
Eligibility Criteria
Please note that:
- Nominees must be either living, working or operating in the Greater Geelong region.
- when they refer to women, they include both cis and trans women as well as gender non-binary people. They acknowledge that gender identity is not confined to a binary (girl / woman, boy / man) nor does it always stay the same; it exists along a continuum and can change over time for each person.
- previous winners are not eligible for nomination for the category in which they were awarded.
