Deadline: 20-Oct-2025
The AJ Muste Foundation is currently accepting applications for Organizing Grants available to organizations and projects based in the United States. The maximum grant award is $10,000, with most grants around $5,000.
They fund both newly-founded and existing organizations engaged in activist organizing. Preference is given to groups with limited foundation funding or other traditional income sources. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations, groups with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, and organizations with their own bank account.
Funding can cover both projects and general operating costs. The foundation seeks creative and bold ideas focused on specific goals. They support projects and organizations dedicated to fighting for systemic change rather than personal or individual support.
The foundation does not fund individuals or their projects, only group efforts. They do not fund direct services, healing or therapy work, or mutual aid unless it’s a small part of larger organizing. Projects or organizations with operating budgets over $250,000 are also ineligible.
They do not support lobbying or political campaigns. Art, film, or dance projects are only funded if they are a small component of organizing. Tuition, scholarships, and university-supported projects are also excluded from funding.
