The Ministries of Justice and Public Safety & Emergency Services is pleased to present the 2023 Community Justice Awards.
The Alberta Community Justice Awards acknowledge the efforts of individuals, youths, police, organizations, businesses, and community groups who have made extraordinary contributions to community justice through sustainable and effective crime prevention, victim services, and restorative justice, among other community justice activities and initiatives.
The Alberta Community Justice Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to preventing crime in their communities.
The recipients have shown exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication to working and volunteering in community justice.
Categories
- Awards are given in each of the categories:
- Emerging Excellence: The individual, organization or business has played a key role in an emerging community justice initiative that is responding to local needs.
- Innovation: The individual/organization employs innovative solutions or approaches in their mandated work. These innovative efforts are shown to be effective and address local community needs.
- Service Enhancement: The individual/organization takes deliberate and logical steps to enhance their services. There is a clearly articulated plan in place, and there is close monitoring and evaluation of service delivery outcomes.
- Partnerships and Collaboration: The individual/organization builds connections and effective partnerships with agencies and complementary organizations in the community. There is a demonstration of effective working relationships and increased capacity to increase safety and serve clients (where applicable).
Eligibility Criteria
- The following people can be nominated:
- Individuals
- Youth justice committees
- Crime prevention organizations
- Victim services groups
- Restorative justice organizations
- Police officers and services
- Nominees must have made extraordinary contributions to community justice through their work or by volunteering in:
- Cime prevention
- Victim services
- Youth justice committees
- Restorative justice.
Nomination Guidelines
- The Community Justice Awards will be administered according to the following guidelines (subject to amendment by the Government of Alberta).
- Award nominations must be made by individuals who are: residents of Alberta and not related to the nominee.
- Individuals may nominate individual Albertans or Albertan-based organizations, businesses, and community groups. (If a group or organization is nominated and is selected to receive an award, only one award will be issued).
- Police Officers and Peace Officers can only be nominated by an individual or organization, not a police service or fellow member.
- Anyone who has received an Alberta Community Justice Award within the last three (3) years is not eligible.
- Self-nominations, nominations from immediate family members or nominations from a subordinate will not be accepted.
- The Community Justice Awards will be administered according to the following guidelines (subject to amendment by the Government of Alberta).
- The nominator must not directly benefit from the nomination or the awarding of a CJA.
- Nominations must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in this nomination package.
- Nominations cannot be submitted without the permission of the nominee.
Ineligible Nominations
- The following nominations are not accepted:
- Police and peace officers nominated by a police service or fellow member (only individuals or organizations may nominate these officers)
- Anyone who’s received the award in the past 3 years
- Self-nominations and nominations from immediate family members
- Nominations from a subordinate in an organization
- Nominations from someone who would directly benefit from the nomination process or award.
