The Historic Cobalt Legacy Fund provides grants to support special projects that contribute to Cobalt’s heritage, cultural activities, and the overall quality of life for its citizens
The Historic Cobalt Legacy Committee, the fund was created to make unrestricted grants that benefit the community, with contributions from many individual donors helping it grow. Successful applications are reviewed by a voluntary Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from Cobalt and the surrounding area, who are chosen for their knowledge of community needs. This committee evaluates applications against eligibility requirements and recommends grants of up to $3,000.00 to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
To be eligible, applicants must be either a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency or a non-profit organization, municipal government, First Nation, or government agency carrying out projects that fulfill the Foundation’s charitable purposes. These purposes include initiatives in social services, arts and culture, education, medical services, physical fitness and amateur sports, and other community-focused activities. Projects must also provide programming within Cobalt and area, and applicants must be up to date with reporting for any previous grants received.
Applications are prioritized based on several criteria. Projects that make the community a better place to live, increase access to services without discrimination, remove barriers to participation, and benefit a broad range of people are given preference. Additional considerations include whether the project can be completed within twelve months, demonstrates a clear financial plan, meets fundraising goals with the grant, and whether the applicant has received consistent funding in the past.
