Applications open for Mangakino-Pouakani Community Grant Program in New Zealand

Call for Proposals: Supporting Community-Led Solutions for Social Cohesion in Montenegro

Deadline: 25-Jul-2025

The Taupo District Council is now accepting applications for the Mangakino-Pouakani Community Grant Program. This funding opportunity is open to individuals and organisations within the Mangakino/Poukani ward who are working on projects that benefit the local community. The grants are distributed by the Mangakino/Poukani Representative Group.

To be eligible, applicants must show how their project, event, or initiative supports one or more of the district’s desired community outcomes. These include respecting and acknowledging the people of the land, promoting Māori heritage, and celebrating identity and language.

The grant also supports projects that bring people together, highlight local history and culture, or promote the arts, sports, and other shared experiences. Initiatives that build community resilience, create safe spaces, support vulnerable groups, or encourage local collaboration are also encouraged.

Projects that aim to boost the local economy, enhance public spaces, and improve the district’s image are eligible as well. Environmental sustainability is another key focus, with support available for conservation efforts, waste reduction, and other eco-friendly activities.

The grant can be used for a range of expenses such as materials, supplies, advertising, venue hire, equipment, rent, salaries, travel, accommodation, operational costs, and maintenance. However, it cannot be used for capital improvements on non-owned facilities, catering, insurance, political or religious promotions, fundraising redistribution, debt repayment, legal or medical expenses, public services provided by the government, alcohol, prize money, or equipment kept by individuals.

Eligibility depends on the fund being applied for. For the Strategic Partnership and Accelerator Funds, applicants must be not-for-profit, charitable organisations that benefit the local community, regardless of their location. For the Community Grant Fund, individuals may also apply if their project contributes to one or more community outcomes. In all cases, past recipients must have met all obligations under previous funding agreements.
