Deadline: 25-Aug-2025
Applications are open for the Alberta Restorative Justice Grant, which aims to support and expand restorative justice initiatives and services within local communities.
This grant funds programs that seek to hold offenders accountable and repair relationships harmed by crime without going through the formal court system. These initiatives promote meaningful outcomes and stronger community reintegration by fostering accountability, healing, and reconciliation. They involve collaborative dialogue between those harmed and those responsible, encouraging active steps toward repairing the damage.
The grant specifically supports the delivery of direct restorative justice services. It can be used to fund program operations, including wages, administration, training, and related operational expenses.
Each program can receive up to $50,000 in funding for one year. The grant is open to both new and existing programs. New programs must be located in communities that have a history of restorative justice or have used restorative practices within the justice system.
To be eligible, applicants must be based in Alberta and fall into one of the following categories: registered non-profit organizations, registered charities in good standing, community coalitions or networks with an incorporated fiscal agent, Indigenous communities (including band and tribal councils), youth justice committees seeking funding for activities not already supported by the ministry, or municipalities.
The grant does not fund individuals, academic institutions, for-profit organizations, crown corporations, or police services.
