Apply for Community Conservation Grant Programme

Deadline: 31-Dec-2025

The Community Conservation Grant Programme provides support for conservation work that is led by or meaningfully engages local communities to protect and restore these vital ecosystems, as well as the species that depend on them.

The grant programme places priority on emerging local organisations and community groups, acknowledging their vital role in ensuring effective and sustainable conservation. It provides flexible support across three key areas: People and Operations, which covers salaries, stipends, and essential overheads that enable conservationists and organisations to focus on their work; Conservation Activities, which supports project-specific costs dedicated to protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves along with the species that depend on them; and Capacity Strengthening, which offers training, tools, and other forms of support to enhance long-term effectiveness and resilience.

Given the interconnected nature of ecosystems, the programme supports efforts addressing habitats, species, and key threats, with a strong emphasis on engaging local communities in protection and restoration.

First-time grants typically provide up to USD 20,000, with flexibility in duration based on partner and project needs. Strong-performing partners may be considered for larger follow-on grants as their capacity and impact grow, and over time, multi-year flexible support will be offered to trusted partners to ensure sustained impact.

The funding approach focuses on the earliest stages of conservation work, providing foundational support to groups that often lack access to traditional funding. Starting with smaller grants enables promising actors to build capacity, establish credibility, and engage communities while preparing for larger opportunities. The programme treats its partners as an extension of its team, aiming to foster genuine relationships that drive long-term results.

Eligibility is open to individuals, community groups, and registered NGOs across Southeast Asia, with priority given to local organisations. Applicants should demonstrate a clear pathway toward achieving a conservation or policy goal, with preference for projects that minimise harm to animals.
