Apply for Community Grant and Sponsorship Program (Canada)

Deadline: 15-Aug-2025

The Municipality of Central Elgin is inviting applications from local community groups and not-for-profit organizations for funding under its new Community Grant and Sponsorship Pilot Program. This initiative aims to balance responsible use of public funds with support for a wide range of volunteer-driven and community-focused organizations that help maintain the area’s quality of life.

The program supports projects and services that strategically benefit Central Elgin, especially those that are inclusive of all residents. It also provides clear criteria to guide staff and council in evaluating funding requests, ensuring an equitable and transparent process for all applicants. The emphasis is on promoting accountability and enabling financial planning through a structured grant and sponsorship system.

Funding may be provided in three forms: one-time grants for specific community-benefiting projects, sponsorships to support operational or capacity-building efforts, and in-kind contributions such as municipal resources that would otherwise be used for regular operations.

A total of $50,000 has been allocated for community grants and sponsorships for the year 2025. The maximum amount for in-kind contributions is $2,000, while program or project-specific funding, whether through a grant or sponsorship, is capped at $5,000.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered charities, incorporated non-profits, or volunteer organizations delivering services or programs that benefit the wider community. They must demonstrate a clear need for the requested funds and either be located in Central Elgin or directly benefit its residents. A completed application form must be submitted by the deadline and include project budgets, financial statements, and other required documentation.

Applicants must also have no outstanding obligations from previous funding received from the Municipality and may be asked to submit comparative financial information for similar past events or initiatives.

Certain entities are ineligible for funding. These include individuals, for-profit businesses, politically affiliated organizations, those who have not properly reported past funding outcomes, and organizations primarily funded by other government levels. Also ineligible are discriminatory activities, events that conflict with municipal policies, and unlawful actions.
