Apply Now: Local Empowerment for Advocacy Development (US)

Deadline: 31-Oct-2025

The Local Empowerment for Advocacy Development (LEAD) Grants, established by CSL Behring, are designed to strengthen the voice and capacity of patient advocacy organisations working to improve care for individuals living with rare and chronic conditions.

Recognising that no one understands the challenges of living with these conditions better than the patients themselves, the LEAD Grants aim to empower communities to advocate for better access, awareness, and health outcomes.

Through this program, CSL Behring provides community-based grants of approximately $10,000 in the United States and €10,000 in Europe. These funds are intended to help local patient organisations achieve specific advocacy goals that address pressing policy or legislative issues within their regions. Successful applicants will demonstrate how financial assistance can make a meaningful impact on their ability to pursue advocacy priorities and create lasting change.

Many local patient organisations have already shown remarkable leadership in tackling complex public policy and healthcare challenges. However, effective advocacy often requires substantial resources. The LEAD Grants help offset these costs, allowing organisations to focus on activities such as influencing policy, improving standards of care, and expanding access to treatment. CSL Behring also collaborates closely with grant recipients, offering guidance and support to help them achieve their objectives successfully.

To qualify for funding, applicants must be recognised patient advocacy organisations representing individuals who rely on plasma or recombinant therapies for conditions such as bleeding disorders, immune deficiencies, Alpha 1 deficiency, Hereditary Angioedema, or CIDP. Eligible organisations must be non-profits with 501(c)(3) tax status and currently engaged in, or planning to engage in, a specific advocacy initiative.

Projects supported by LEAD Grants can include a wide range of advocacy activities. These may involve developing innovative strategies to address local policy challenges, advocating for legislation that improves standards or quality of care, promoting early diagnosis and equitable access to treatment, or establishing grassroots initiatives to influence local decision-making.

Through the LEAD Grants program, CSL Behring reaffirms its commitment to empowering patient communities—helping them become powerful advocates for change, advance critical healthcare legislation, and create a more supportive environment for those living with rare and serious medical conditions.
