Arts Council of Wales announces “Create” Funds in UK

Apply for International Residency Initiatives Scheme (Ireland)

Deadline: 14-Jan-2026

The “Create” fund from Arts Council of Wales offers an opportunity for artists and organisations to realise high-quality arts projects that connect with the public and stretch creative boundaries.

The fund encourages proposals that respond to priorities such as equality and diversity, reaching under-represented communities, use of the Welsh language, climate justice, nurturing creative talent, and building stronger resilience in the arts sector.

Individuals and organisations based in Wales can apply for “Create” funding to support activities ranging from research and development, creation and presentation of work, festivals, touring, community engagement, to training or business development. Projects must go beyond routine activity and be time-limited, with clear start and end dates. They should also include collaboration with partners such as other artists, artistic mentors or organisations.

There are two funding bands: “Small Create” for grants up to £10,000 and “Large Create” for grants between £10,001 and £50,000. In exceptional cases and by prior arrangement, funding up to £100,000 may be considered. For most projects, Arts Wales expects at least 10% of project income to come from sources other than Arts Wales or the National Lottery, ensuring shared investment.

“Create” requires that most of the activity takes place in Wales. Projects delivered partly overseas must show a clear benefit to Welsh individuals or communities. Core costs are generally excluded, especially for organisations already receiving portfolio funding. The deadline for Large Create applications falls on specific dates, while Small Create applications can be submitted at any time, provided there is sufficient lead time.

This fund is particularly suitable for artists and arts or cultural organisations that have strong ideas, committed collaborators, clear financial planning, and a desire to use arts to play a transformative role in communities across Wales.
