Call for Applications: Turangi/Tongariro Community Grant Program (New Zealand)

Apply now for Community Project Grant (Australia)

Deadline: 25-Jul-2025

The Taupo District Council is now inviting applications for the Tūrangi/Tongariro Community Grant Program. This funding opportunity is available to individuals and organisations based in the Tūrangi/Tongariro ward who are working on projects that positively impact the local community.

Applicants must show how their proposed project, event, or initiative aligns with one or more of the Council’s key community outcomes. These outcomes focus on respecting and acknowledging the people of the land, particularly through initiatives that meet the aspirations of hapū and iwi, promote Māori cultural heritage, celebrate Māori identity, and enhance knowledge of Māori culture and language.

The grant also supports projects that contribute to vibrant, connected communities. This includes celebrating local people, history, and culture, supporting arts, Ngā toi, and sporting activities, and creating opportunities for shared community experiences.

Projects that strengthen resilience within the community are also eligible. These may include initiatives that help whānau and communities meet their needs, create safe spaces for vulnerable populations, encourage collaboration, and improve social and economic resilience.

The program supports efforts to boost the local economy and public spaces, helping to enhance the district’s image and promote vibrancy. Environmental sustainability is another focus, with support for projects that improve conservation efforts and promote waste reduction, reuse, and recycling practices.

Eligible costs under the grant include materials, supplies, advertising, venue or equipment hire, rent, staff wages, travel, accommodation, operational expenses, and maintenance of facilities or equipment.

Ineligible costs include capital upgrades to non-owned facilities, food or catering, insurance, subscriptions, projects with political, religious, or commercial agendas, fundraising redistribution, debt or legal expenses, central government responsibilities like core education or healthcare, alcohol, prize money, and uniforms or equipment retained by individuals.

Eligibility requirements vary by fund type. For the Strategic Partnership and Accelerator Funds, applicants must be not-for-profit, charitable organisations working to benefit the local community, regardless of location. For the Community Grant Funds, both not-for-profits and individuals are eligible, provided the project contributes to at least one of the community outcomes. All applicants must have fulfilled previous funding obligations to be considered.
