Nominations are open for the Upper Lachlan Shire Council Australia Day Awards 2023
The Citizen, Young Citizen, Sportsperson, Young Sportsperson and Event of the Year Awards are presented annually by Upper Lachlan Shire Council to promote and recognize outstanding examples of citizenship and achievement within the Shire.
Categories
the five categories are:
- Access and Inclusion
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Online or Community Event of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
Eligibility Criteria
- Appointments can be made by an individual or organization.
- Nominees must be Australian citizens.
- The Award cannot be made to a Councillor, State or Federal politician.
- The Award cannot be made to a current employee of Upper Lachlan Shire Council.
- A person cannot receive a second award.
- The Award must be for work performed principally within the shire of Upper Lachlan.
- Only one Award is to be presented each year for Upper Lachlan Shire Council and the recipient is to be known as the “Australia Day Citizen of the Year”, “Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year”, “Australia Day Event of the Year” , “Sportsperson of the Year” and “Young Sportsperson of the Year”.
- There may also be a Crookwell, Taralga and Gunning “Australia Day Citizen, Young Citizen and Event of the Year” Awards.
- Regard will be given to a person's community activities in the year immediately prior to receipt of the Award, as well as their past community services.
- The Citizen of the Year should be held in high regard in the community.
- Young Citizen of the Year (up to 25 years of age) should be someone who has excelled in community or academic pursuits.
- The Event nominated should have a strong community focus (not necessarily a commercial one) and be well patronised.
- Sportsperson's nominated should have excelled in sporting achievements in the year prior to Award.
- Young Sportsperson's nominated should have excelled in sporting achievements in the year prior to Award.
- Community work of a high caliber will be taken into account for Australia Day Awards.
- The person should have strong ethical and community values.
- The name of one referee must be supplied with the nomination.
- The nomination should explain the achievements and background of the nominee and the reasons for nomination.
- The nomination should contain a recent photograph.
- The decision of the committee will be referred to Council for final ratification.
- All nomination forms and material submitted remains the property of Council.
- Previous years unsuccessful nominations, predate up to 3 years must be available for renomination in future years (this clause does not apply to Event, Sportsperson and Young Sportsperson award categories.
