Deadline: 10-Nov-2025
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP)), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on behalf of the GEF Partnership, has announced an opportunity for eligible organizations to organize a stakeholder inception workshop in Chiredzi District.
The workshop aims to introduce stakeholders to the GEF SGP funding opportunities and officially launch the Call for Proposals under Operational Phase 8 (OP8), focusing on the Chiredzi landscape. This event will play a vital role in promoting awareness, collaboration, and participation among local organizations and institutions working toward sustainable environmental and community development.
The session will serve as a platform to discuss the objectives of the GEF SGP, outline the proposal submission process for OP8, and encourage eligible entities to engage in community-driven projects that align with environmental sustainability goals. The allocated budget for organizing the workshop must be presented in US dollars and should not exceed USD 75,000. The funds will cover expenses such as venue hire, transport reimbursements, morning tea, and lunch for participants.
Eligibility to apply for this opportunity is limited to registered Civil Society Organizations, including non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, research institutions, academic institutions, and faith-based organizations whose goals align with the GEF agenda. Individuals and private companies are not eligible to apply. All applicants must provide proof of registration, such as Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) certificates or evidence of ongoing registration processes, as well as copies of their organizational constitution.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate relevant experience in organizing stakeholder engagement activities and managing projects similar in scope to the GEF SGP initiative. Submissions must include the curriculum vitae of three key project personnel: a project manager, a lead finance officer, and a monitoring and evaluation officer, each with at least three years of experience in their respective fields. A list of board members, accompanied by certified copies of their identification documents, should also be provided.
To strengthen their application, organizations must submit at least three letters of support from partner institutions, along with minutes from their two most recent board meetings. Successful applicants will be required to open a separate bank account dedicated to managing the project funds to ensure transparency and accountability.
This opportunity represents a significant step toward fostering environmental stewardship and strengthening community partnerships within the Chiredzi District. By supporting the organization of the inception workshop, GEF SGP aims to empower local stakeholders, promote knowledge sharing, and stimulate the development of innovative, sustainable solutions that contribute to the protection of ecosystems and the enhancement of livelihoods in the region.
